About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

RARE SCANDINAVIAN MODERN CINEMA CHAIR
Circa 1950s | untouched original surfaces
Item # 306XNE27P

This rare and most compelling cinema chair absolutely pops with its rich and untouched historical surface throughout. The chair features a folding seat with original maroon-red faux-leather upholstery bordered on the seat-back by a thin element of molded steel. The seat and seat-back are crafted of molded plywood while the feet and sculpted arm supports are solid oak. The chair rotates on a pin with oversized molded oak caps on either side while the chair seat falls to rest on an oak stretcher bar and the back of the legs are stabilized with a similar stretcher bar recessed into the legs. A scarce and incredibly striking piece!

Measurements: 33 1/4" H x 22 3/8" D x 22 3/4" W x 17 1/2" H to seat

Condition Report:
The structure remains untouched, showcasing a rich historical surface with a deep patina: heavily worn, oxidized and discolored surfaces: seat with rubbing through the vinyl. While the entire piece could be refurbished to achieve a pristine look, the oxidized and patinated red faux-leather creates a delightful contrast against the oil-darkened and time-worn hardwood and plywood surfaces. It is fully functional.
