AMERICAN SCRUBBED PINE PREPARATION TABLE
19th century, with remnants of early green and ochre paint
Item # 109RXP14P
A wonderful scrubbed pine preparation table for the kitchen spaces, it features three positively broad pine planks for the top with an absolutely gorgeous patina throughout. They exhibit a fine historical surface with old knife cut marks, stains and other wear from over a century of active functional use in the home. It is an austere form of primitive design, the sides simply nailed with cut iron nails at each corner, locking the leg in place and joining one edge to the next. The table still retains remnants of a light green (with some hints of robin's egg blue) paint over an earlier ochre paint, all heavily worn throughout.
It remains sturdy and ready for regular service with firm joints, simple austere form and the kind of rich historical surface that can only be achieved over a century of loving use. If well-cared for, the table should continue to serve for many decades to come.
Measurements: 29 1/2" H x 29" D x 65 3/4" W
Condition Report:
Numerous additional nails added throughout, most old square cut nails but a few are early and mid 20th century. Extensive wear throughout, notable finish loss to the feet, casters are early and a bit sticky; extensive wear to the sides of the top, these perhaps reduced along the long edges, perhaps when a crack formed in one; all top edges beautifully patinated from years of rubbing and wear.
