ART DECO CHROME, ETCHED-GLASS AND MARBLE LUMIERE TABLE LIGHT
France, circa 1930s | unmarked
Item # 311FWS30K
This rich decorative table light features a pair of fish floating along in the ocean surrounded with hints of seaweed and air bubbles, the decoration acid-etched into one of the two layers of glass. One layer of the glass is clear while the backing is amber glass to create a warmer glow.
Two chromed metal spheres on either side of the circular glass hold the pane in place while a light bulb is installed within the larger sphere. Light can only escape from a small opening in the larger sphere, directing that tiny hint of illumination against the glass to add drama to the fish. The upper hemisphere of the larger removes to give access to the small light bulb.
The lamp is raised over a polished Nero Portero marble base and remains entirely original other than the replaced wiring. A whimsical and delightful lumiere.
Measurements: 10" H x 13" W x 3 1/8" D
