BRONZE SCULPTURE OF GIULIANO DE MEDICI AFTER MICHELANGELO
Continental, c. Late 19th Century
Item # 506HVP27
A beautifully detailed and darkly patinated sculpture of Giuliano de Medici, the brother of Lorenzo de Medici after one of the pair of sculptures by Michelangelo at the tomb of Lorenzo de Medici at the Medici Chapel in Florence. The side is inscribed noting it as a reduction "R um Sauvage". The delightful mix of nearly black patination with browns and red oxides makes for a positively brilliant surface. Finely chased and filed, the detail is executed with precision in this large and striking example of Giuliano posed as a Roman consul. It will certainly be a cherished piece in any collection of Classical sculpture.
