Comolera, Paul
Paul Comoléra was born in Paris in 1818, studying under Rude and eventually specializing in animalier subjects, particularly bird studies. He first exhibited at Salon in 1847 with a group entitled “Golden Pheasants of China" and actively exhibited most years through his death, including his bronze sculpture of “Wounded Partridge” in 1865. Much of his work was edited by Susse Freres and A. Gouge. He would go on to train Jules Moigniez, one of the most important artists of the animalier school, and many examples of Moigniez work are developments on Comoléra’s bird studies.
