ENGLISH GEORGIAN PARCEL GILT WALNUT PIER MIRROR
Circa 1840-60, with replaced upper glass
Item # 003NJT10
A gorgeous wall mirror from the middle of the 19th century, this originally housed a painting in the upper portion and the mirror in the lower portion. The painting has since been replaced with a modern piece of mirrored glass. It is crafted out of burlwood veneer over pine secondary woods and is highlighted with truly expert carvings throughout. In the upper corners are crisply carved acanthus designs that mirror the relief carvings of the mirror molding. On either side are pierced carvings of grapes on vines. Elements throughout are highlighted with gilding over a darker paint. On the reverse, original oak boards back the lower mirror.
Measurements: 37 1/8" H x 38 3/8" W x 2 1/2" D

Loss to carved foliage on either side with associated in-painting, chip losses on either side of the lower molding, other spots of chipping/wear to frame along with gilding and gesso wear. Sliver of veneer missing along the lower edge of frame in the center. Upper mirror is a replacement - originally this framed a painting. Lower mirror with extensive silvering loss to the mirror, an early plate of glass that is perhaps original.
