BRONZE SCULPTURE OF PSYCHE AFTER A MODEL BY ETIENNE-HENRI DUMAIGE
Cast circa late 19th Century, signed “H. Dumaige” on base
Item # 511IVL17
An exquisitely cast model of Psyche, this inordinately attractive sculpture is in simply marvelous original condition. The finishing work and overall patina are most remarkable - the surface is chaotic, a swirl of greenish-browns and blacks bringing depth and life to the subject. The level of detail is exquisite, every aspect of the figure carefully chased and filed into a perfect representation of realism. She is substantial, striking and an absolute definition piece for whatever room it becomes a part of. Sculptural representation of Psyche was quite common during the period and we’ve carried a broad number of Romantic representations of her from peers of Dumaige; however, this is one of the finest representations of her, a most relaxed and beautiful female form.
Measurements: 8 3/4” D x 7 3/8” W x 17 1/4” H
Condition Report:
Surface in absolutely gorgeous condition - some patina variation, light discoloration to left upper arm and a light abrasion in the crook of her left arm; some light oxidization in crevices of garment; minor white marks beside signature and on back; single tiny “pinhole” between locks of hair.
