FRENCH PARCEL-GILT AND WHITE-PAINTED TRUMEAU MIRROR OF SUBSTANTIAL SIZE
In the Louis XV taste | ca. late 19th century
Item # 403SHI18X
A very large trumeau mirror in the Louis XV taste, the relatively austere form features a pearl painted ground against which the carved giltwood absolutely pops. The gilding is largely original and wonderfully oxidized, the tarnish and overall patina of the surface lending some needed surface history to the interior. Circa last quarter of the 19th century.
Measurements: 80" H x 44 3/4" W
Condition Report:
Heavily worn and oxidized throughout; white painted surface probably refreshed in the 20th century, still presenting with chips and discolorations; overall aged aesthetic; gilding tarnished with chipping and rubbing through the gilding to reveal the underlying red bole and white base; carvings with chipping and losses; mirror with smokiness and silvering losses; a fine presentation that is ready to place.
