FRENCH LOUIS XVI KINGWOOD WRITING TABLE A ROGNON
Circa 19th century
Item # 803NCR07
A lovely 19th century French vide poche, the table remains in pristine original condition throughout. The top is a rognon, being of kidney form to allow a writer to easily pull up to the table. Intricately veneered with a marquetry display of flowers sprouting from a simple bouquet arranged in a perfect circle surrounded by parquetry tiles and framed by a brass border, the body of the table is veneered in a golden kingwood. A single drawer with tiny precise handcut dovetails pulls easily from the table to reveal a fitted drawer for pens and ink. The scrolled and pierced legs curve beautifully to terminate in tiny brass castors. It is remarkable that a table of this delicate structure has remained in such excellent condition.
