About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

FRENCH LOUIS XVI STYLE GREEN MARBLE AND BRONZE PEDESTAL
Circa 1880-1900 | mounts marked ACX verso

Item # 407SKP10Q

This fabulous angular column features a series of perfectly matched cove moldings embellished with brilliantly chiseled and chased bas-relief anthemion and foliage, these framing each transition from one level to the next within the pedestal. The top panel features a single arrow wrapped in wreathes, the centermost wreath showcasing an olive branch twisted in a full circle. The baluster is mounted with a beautifully decorated and cast torch. All castings are marked on the reverse ACX. The footer rests over a thick polished brass plate.

A very powerful and regal column.

Note: as of this writing, Cedric Dupont Antiques features an identical pair of these columns in the same verde marble with slightly different mounts (available at the time of this writing for $ 39,500), suggesting these would likely have been made and retailed in pairs.

Measurements: 43 3/4" H x 10 1/2" D x 12 3/4" W

Condition Report:
Rubbing wear through the gilding, a few spots of verdigris and other oxidization. Very minor chipping to the column in a few spots, rubbing wear/scuffs to the top as expected. A very fine pedestal, ready to place.
