FRENCH WAXED PINE DISPLAY CABINET OR CUPBOARD
Circa mid-to-late 19th century
Item # 306REP14A
A delightful French Provincial cabinet of the 19th century, it features a positively gorgeous scrubbed and waxed pine surface throughout that shows a well-developed patina. We love these pieces with historical surfaces that show how they have touched and used extensively over the decades - or in this case, for well over a century. The cabinet is designed to be light and easily moved around - the choice of pine is certainly a part of that, but also the choice by the cabinetmaker to exclude a bottom for the upper cabinet - the top of the lower cabinet serves as the bottom for the upper cabinet. The upper cabinet easily lifts off with two huge dowels that drop into the top of the lower cabinet for stability. It features a pair of glazed doors that open to reveal a silver-painted interior with adjustable shelving. The lower cabinet has a single shelf. A very nice presentation.
Measurements: 90 1/4" H x 52 1/2" W x 20" D
Condition Report:
Wonderful scrubbed pine surface throughout with a warm waxed overall patina; surface history, nicks, dings, abrasions, etc. as expected; the interior of the upper cabinet has been painted a silvery-gray, probably late 20th century; the lower cabinet has a replaced shelf of somewhat inferior making - this could easily be painted, upholstered or simply replaced with a better quality shelf; sturdy and strong throughout. Locks are non-functioning throughout and doors remain closed using modern magnetic catches that were added at some point in the late 20th century.
