A VERY GOOD GUSTAVIAN DROP-LEAF DINING TABLE IN EARLY WHITE PAINT
Sweden, circa first half of the 19th century
29 1/2" H x 22 1/8" D x 78 1/4" W (opened)
This very attractive original Swedish slagboard dining table retains a lovely and rather early gray-white paint that is beautifully worn and presents with a great overall patina. It features two drop leaves that raise over swinging gate-legs to a full-width of 78 1/4". Each of the leaves have shaped battens inserted into the undersides using dovetails so that the planks can shrink and expand freely; these battens are then affixed to the table frame with pegs.
Condition:
Old paint with earlier layers of similar pigment hue underneath; extensive scuffing, wear and abrading. Missing a few wooden pegs and the present pegs are replacements. Sturdy and incredibly strong, ready for regular functional use.
