FRENCH LOUIS XVI PAINTED FOOTSTOOL
France, circa late 18th century
Item # 206DGU29P-1
A very nice and petite footstool from the last quarter of the 18th-century, this lovely stool retains an old and beautifully patinated painted surface of overall gray with blue highlights of a later date. The toupie legs are fluted with ring-turnings while the apron molding is beautifully decorated with beads over carved floral flourishes while the panel over each leg is set with a carved acanthus rosette.
A lovely example. We currently have two of these as a matching pair being sold separately and images are a mix of both stools - if both are still available and you are buying just one, you can certainly request one versus the other if you have a preference based on the images.
Measurements: 7 5/8" H x 11 5/8" D x 15 7/8" W
Condition Report:
Old but not original painted surface with blue highlights and touch-ups of a more recent date, extensively worn throughout; inactive pest damage; upholstery is 20th century and should be changed (stained/blemished); cracks and repairs to frame.
