NEO-GREC GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK
Movement by Vincenti et Cie, circa 1870
Item # 305YZT12P
A beautifully cast, chiseled and chased Napoleon III period mantel clock executed in the Neo-Grec taste, the case is surmounted by an urn with exquisitely detailed relief Bacchanalia scenes complete with its lid. The face is covered in a thick beveled glass door, opening to reveal patinated relief roman numerals surrounded by an acanthus outer ring. Fluted columns flank the face and on either side of these are situated outward facing Lion masks of very fine quality with cast and gilded rings hanging from their mouths. Each of the four corners is raised over reptilian feet that are suggestive of a dragon with engraved wings projecting from behind the knees. The clock retains its original pendulum and the back of the movement is marked by the renowned clockmakers Vincenti et Cie.
