NEOCLASSICAL PARCEL-GILT PAINTED CORNER CUPBOARD
Circa late 19th century
Item # 911PZA24Q
A fantastic Neoclassical built-in cupboard from the late 19th century, this gorgeous piece is worn with a great surface history in the early gray-beige paint, this with just a hint of teal. The curved profile is highlighted by the intricate dome paneled with lobes of bellflowers cast in relief throughout over an open shelved interior with three adjustable "cupid's bow" form shelves.
The overall effect is powerful and interesting. It is intended to be built into the room as a seamless unit, so while it technically does stand alone without any difficulty the better use would be to actually incorporate it into the wall and match moldings around it.
Measurements: 94 1/2" H x 16 1/2" D x 50 1/4" W [dimensions approximate - contact us for any specific dimension measurement if the space requires exact angles]
Condition Report:
Extensive surface wear to paint throughout including blistering, crackling and loss; paint is early but not original. Numerous portions of plaster relief elements chipped or missing, particularly in the dome where it is crackled and worn. Repairs to corners of crest molding, repairs to some shelf ends; one shelf pin missing and a dowel is being used instead. Form perhaps somewhat altered in the base with a later trim and posts added to the back for standalone support.
