About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

NORTHERN EUROPEAN PAINTED ONE-DOOR WARDROBE OR CUPBOARD
18th century and later with restorations
Item # 407RVF11P

A lovely and very useful cupboard of good dimensions, it features a single door on wrought-iron hinges opening to reveal a shelved interior on the left and open hanging space on the right with hand-carved wooden hooks for jackets. The overall rectangular form is softened by canted corners, these decorated with painted flowers on vines over a white ground. The door features two molded panels with angular stylized flowers. The cabinet is raised on bun feet.

Measurements: 67 3/4" H X 21 1/2" D X 44 1/4" W

Condition Report:
With extensive restorations over the years, quite competently and largely having joined the overall patina: door with applied strip along closing edge, hardware on the door is almost certainly replaced, base molding replaced, paint decoration and faux-graining throughout is refreshed. Gaps in the base moldings, modern strip added to the reverse to close a crack. Heavily worn surface. A very nice aesthetic.
