PAIR OF FRENCH LOUIS XVI STYLE BRONZE MOUNTED BRECHE VIOLETTE MARBLE VASES
Circa third quarter of the 19th century
Item # 403TET18P
A lovely matched pair of vases in the Louis XV taste from the Napoleon III era, these feature the delightful hue of a subtle purple in the breche violette marble of the bodies, both turned entirely of solid stone. They are mounted with beautifully cast and gilt polychromed bronze with acanthus over the curved handles and garlands of flowers and foliage draping between them. Concentric intertwining swirls finish the undersides over the socle embellished with a laurel leaf wreath. Both are raised on a brass rim. A very fine presentation.
Measurements: 14 3/4" H x 5 3/8" D x 9" W (at handles)
Condition Report:
Old hairline cracks within the marble. Gilt to the rim worn, gilt polychroming throughout refreshed. Both carefully cleaned and sealed in conservator's wax. A very fine presentation.
