About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

H. PÉTRILLY
French, active early 20th century

"Walking Pheasant"

Silvered bronze over black marble with silver base | signed in cast "H. Petrilly", incised in marble "URBAIN ET CIE PARIS EDITEURS" | circa 1930

Item # 407YQV10P

A wonderful silvered bronze model of a Pheasant by the French Art Deco sculptor H. Petrilly, it features an angular stylized representation of the gentle bird. It stands alert with eyes peeled, proud under its bold plume while it walks along over the stacked Nero Portero marble base with stylized foliage cast integrally beside its legs. The model is signed in the smoothed foliage "H. Pétrilly" and the base is incised in tiny script by the editeurs Urbain & Cie.

Measurements: 15" H x 7 38" D x 10" W (base) x 19 3/4" W (widest points)

Condition Report:
Rubbing through the silvering to reveal the golden hue of the underlying bronze beneath on both the sculpture and on the silvered plate beneath the marble. Traces of tarnish and oxidization within the recesses throughout - these could certainly be polished out upon request, but we chose to leave the remnants of tarnish for some texture variation. Spotting and discoloration to the marble. A fine presentation.
