"PIRATE" CHROME STEEL AND LEATHER LOUNGE CHAIR WITH STOOL
Designed by Elsa & Nordahl Solheim, Norway circa 1960s
Item # 209GQW17P
A rich and interesting vintage lounge chair with the matching foot rest designed by Elsa & Nordahl Solheim of Norway. It is a precise chair with great angular lines executed in the layered heavy flat bars of chromed steel, all of which has been beautifully machined. The leather is probably original and in overall poor-to-fair condition - probably still serviceable, but they would look incredible together if recovered. The leather is supported by canvas that is slung to the frame. The curvature and bounce of the steel make the chair remarkably comfortable.
We may still have the matching pair to this chair (but without a foot rest) available in our inventory.
Measurements: 26 3/4" D x 34 7/8" H x 25" W; 18" H to seat [chair]; 20 1/4" D x 24 7/8" W x 17 1/2" H [stool]
Condition Report:
Chrome polished and cleaned, pitting and spots of chrome loss in a few areas. Leather should be changed: it is in overall "poor-to-fair" condition, overall being a bit dry, having tears and cracking, some discoloration/other blemishes; the headrest is tied to the frame with some black leather lacing; the canvas is in overall fair condition and works perfectly well to support the seat, but also has some wear/holes/blemish. They present beautifully together but naturally would be incredible once reupholstered.
