England, circa early 19th century | fantastic proportions, only 10 1/2" in total depth
Item # 209FEP28A
This lovely early 19th century Regency chiffonier cabinet features a rosewood veneer over all primary surfaces and is hung with original bronze mounts throughout. The pair of locking doors feature original latticework brass grillwork and they open to reveal an upholstered interior with two fixed shelves. The top raises an upper shelf on turned pillars, the rosewood shelf with a pierced bronze gallery surrounding the back and sides. A simple piece with clean angular lines, it is of incredibly convenient proportions. By being only 10 1/2" in total depth, it fits comfortably even in narrow hallways or small entryways. The rich and beautifully patinated rosewood is mellowed and shows wonderful age throughout.
