About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

SCANDINAVIAN MODERN MAPLE & LEATHER SAFARI CHAIRS ATTRIBUTED TO WILHELM KIENZLE
Circa 1970 | unmarked | brand new expertly crafted leather and custom machined hardware
Item # 306YRC27L-1

An absolutely gorgeous chair made in the "Safari" tradition, this Scandinavian rendition of the popular easy chair is designed to entirely disassemble for easy transport. The form is almost always attributed to Wilhelm Kienzle. Crafted entirely of solid maple that moves from squared to a fine taper in the feet, the structure is built to last many lifetimes if well cared for. Note the expert leather work, which we just had completed for the chair to replace the worn canvas upholstery that was formerly on the chair. We also had our machinist custom fabricate incredibly cool and useful brass knobs for the shoulders to replace the simplistic "wingnuts" that come with the chair - as the tightness needs to be adjusted based on how you enjoy sitting, this is an ideal knob for adjusting your chair.

Measurements: 29" H x 24 1/4" D x 24 1/4" W x 14" H to seat

Condition Report:
Vintage and likely original surface with stains, blemish and wear throughout as expected. Brand new artisan-made leather covering. Exceedingly good presentation.
