JULES MOIGNIEZ
France, 1835-1894
Standing Bull
Patinated bronze | Signed "J. Moigniez" in base | Circa 1870
Item # 202TPX12Z
A fine casting after Moigniez's model of a Standing Bull, it was also composed as a group together with a cow with some slight variation in positioning as well as being offered as an opposing pair: the Standing Cow and the Standing Bull facing one another. Cast during the third quarter of the 19th century, it features a pleasing overall brown surface patination with rubbed highlights bringing out a more golden hue. The powerful beast stands over a naturalistic base with tufts of grass and mottled dirt, his hooves sinking into the earth while his eyes alert on something in the distance. The base is signed in his typical manner "J. Moigniez" by the back foot. It is raised over an integral stepped plinth with faceted corners and finished on the underside with an original pine insert.
