ALFRED DUBUCAND
French, 1828-1894
"Standing Stag"
Medium-brown patinated bronze | Signed in naturalistic base "A. Dubucand" | inscribed to underside "304 5768 OU 2910"
Item # 109HPV21P
A beautifully textured model of Standing Stag by Alfred Dubucand, the sculpture features a wonderful all-over silky surface with a fine texture sand-cast directly from the mold with little cold-tooling evident. It is finished in a complex surface patina of overall medium-brown with hints of reds and yellows along with a slightly verde hue. It is signed in the base in his typical script "A. Dubucand" and retains early foundry inscriptions in ink along the underside. Standing Stag is an adaption Dubucand made in the light of the success of his group Stag and Hind (1870), separating both figures and turning them into individual sculptures.
