About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

VINTAGE CHROME AND PATINATED LEATHER "NY" CHAIR
Designed by Takeshi Nii | circa 1970s
Item # 209MNW24K

A perfect example of the harmony that can be found between industrial production of furniture and clever design, the "Ny" chair features a collapsible form that completely folds down and can be tucked away while serving as a literally perfect minimalist seating example at all other times. Designed in 1970 by Takeshi Nii (Japanese, 1920-2007), the present early example is simply tubular chromed-steel without any applied arms and is upholstered in a heavy rawhide leather set over canvas for an incredibly strong and supportive seat.

Measurements: 33 1/2" H x 29 1/2" D x 24" W; 11 1/4" H (to low point of seat) and 16 5/8" H (to high point of seat)

Condition Report:
Chrome is polished and remains in overall good condition; one bolt custom machined and replaced; original leather with heavy discoloration and scuffing throughout, some loose stitches here and there; overall very comfortable, incredible sturdy and ready to place.
